1917 Movie review

1917 - When Blake was relaxing himself in the open meadows after the tiring war, he was called up for a task asking him to bring his company and the kit. He chose his friend who was lying beside him. Both goes to through trenches hoping they get some good meal and will be sent to home for Christmas. His Jaw drops when he was told that he needs to go with his friend to save 1600 men including his big brother. Whether he and his friend able to succeed this mission or not is the rest. What reminds of this storyline? Saving Private Ryan ? If yes then you have to wait in sometime to get impressed, otherwise you will start to enjoy from the beginning. I watched Saving Private Ryan around some four years ago. Still I can't help getting reminded of it. Usually I don't have much memory about the movie. But saving private Ryan was haunting me thats why I might have got remembered. The only difference is how many people are getting saved. I would say Blake is sent for the greater good and the reason he was sent with his friend is, "He who travels alone, travels the fastest" as the major say. The way the major chose him is interesting. Even though you don't want to carry out the mission, your blood guilty you. So you will eventually decide to go and he chose a friend. We know friends may criticize but they never leave you. The major might have seen this which made him to choose Blake over others despite the his map skills.

From the start one thing that makes you feel great about 1917 is the cinimatography. It's brilliant because you feel the entire movie is shot in a single shot. They have done it meticulously. Editing also played it's part to bring out single shot experience. That's where 1917 had me. The ultimate aim is to prevent an attack, so you will not see huge amount of action but the way the story travels might interest you.

Thomas Newman background score keeps the screenplay scary and one might even feel they are in the battlefield. Even though, there are too many good things I felt something was missing that I wasn't able to get satisfied thoroughly(Personally felt). Otherwise 1917 is a good movie.
