Bigil movie review

The movie starts with a terrible introduction. Atlee is generally a Vijay fanatic, so I thought there will be more mass scenes. More than football, the expectations for me is the performance of one man i.e. Vijay. But the introduction scene was disappointing. Then the Nayanthara introduction came which was better than Vijay's. Of course it was subtle but that didn't ruin the introduction part. But that's it. All the scenes between Nayanthara and Vijay was boring. There was no love. It felt like a casual relationship between a guy and girl who found each other in Tinder. The duet Unakaga song situation is most irritating.

Most of the football match scenes are disaster. The whole VFX gives an irritation to the eyes. I wondered why Atlee can't find a decent play ground to shoot scenes like this. That would have been more natural. Another thing is most scenes are shot in the artificial sets. It's not that it should not be done in sets. But it was so evident. Especially the fight scene in the bridge. Even songs were like that. The whole Verithanam song was not much of a treat to watch. Dance movements were subtle. The only consolation is Rayappan character. It was good to watch him perform with that background score.

For a second I thought bigil was going to be wasted, then comes the second half to save the entire movie. It's where the story gets interesting. Acid victim scenes are too emotional. Vijay's speech to her was laudable. When the girls accept him as a coach, that's where Vijay's good performances are getting unveiled. Even though climax scenes were easily gussiable it was good and emotional. If it weren't for the second half, I might have definitely hated Vijay for choosing this script and Bigil would have been a disaster. The emotional second half saves the movie and gives a good feel at the end.

Yogibabu, Vivek and Anandraj are wasted. Including Nayanthara. If Bigil could have been blown better, the movie might have been more interesting. Still, it was good as the second half does what's intended.
